Wellbeing
Natural elements, views, texture and sensory variety can support more restorative everyday environments.
Biophilic Design Dubai
Green Zen creates bespoke biophilic interiors, Japanese Zen gardens, indoor gardens and terrariums, preserved moss walls, landscapes and sculptural nature installations across Dubai and the UAE.
The essential answer
Biophilic design is the intentional integration of nature, natural materials and nature-inspired spatial qualities into the built environment.
It goes beyond adding plants. A complete biophilic interior may combine daylight, views, living or preserved planting, water, stone, timber, organic forms, natural colour, texture, airflow and spaces that provide both openness and refuge.
In Dubai and the UAE, biophilic design must also respond intelligently to heat, intensive air conditioning, water use, maintenance requirements and the architecture of each property. Green Zen designs each project around those conditions rather than applying a standard decorative formula.
Why it matters
Biophilic design can help create interiors that feel calmer, more restorative, more memorable and more closely connected to the natural world.
Natural elements, views, texture and sensory variety can support more restorative everyday environments.
Thoughtful planting and natural materials can make offices feel more comfortable, engaging and human.
Bespoke moss walls, gardens and art installations create distinctive spaces that people remember.
Nature-integrated design can enrich arrival areas, restaurants, hotels, spas and guest environments.
Indoor gardens, terrariums and natural features bring depth, softness and atmosphere to contemporary homes.
Appropriate systems, preserved materials and climate-aware planting can reduce unnecessary water and maintenance demand.

The Green Zen approach
Every project begins with the space: its proportions, light, circulation, intended use and the feeling it should create. Only then do we select planting, preserved botanicals, stone, timber, water, lighting or sculptural elements.
Green Zen manages concept development, visualisation, material selection, fabrication, installation and ongoing care where required. This allows each feature to feel integrated rather than added as an afterthought.
What we create
Our work combines planting, preserved natural materials, craftsmanship, lighting and architectural composition. Every installation is bespoke.

Dubai's climate means much of everyday life takes place inside air-conditioned homes, offices, hotels and retail environments. Biophilic design offers a practical way to restore visual, material and sensory contact with nature within those interiors.
The local context also demands careful technical choices. Live planting must suit available light and irrigation; preserved moss belongs in climate-controlled interiors; exterior landscapes need appropriate species, soil preparation, water management and protection from extreme summer conditions.
For this reason, Green Zen evaluates every project individually. We may recommend living, preserved, artificial or hybrid systems depending on the architecture, operational requirements and desired experience.
Research & design principles
A rigorous biophilic strategy considers direct experiences of nature, indirect natural references and the spatial qualities people instinctively respond to.
Terrapin Bright Green's 14+ Patterns of Biophilic Design provides a useful research framework connecting nature, human biology and the built environment. Green Zen applies these ideas selectively and practically, adapting them to the project's architecture and UAE conditions rather than treating the framework as a visual checklist.
Questions answered
An example could be an office reception combining a preserved moss wall, natural timber, layered lighting, tactile stone and views to planting. A larger project might include an indoor garden, water feature, sculptural installation and exterior landscape as one connected concept.
No. Plants are one tool. Biophilic design can also use daylight, natural ventilation, water, stone, timber, organic shapes, natural colour, sensory texture, views, prospect, refuge and spatial patterns associated with nature.
Yes. It works particularly well when the design accounts for UAE light levels, heat, air conditioning, irrigation, maintenance and the intended use of the space. The correct system may be living, preserved, artificial or a combination.
A Japanese Zen garden is a specific landscape composition influenced by Japanese design principles and may use stone, sand, moss, trees and carefully controlled space. A biophilic interior is broader and may incorporate many forms of nature and natural pattern. A Zen garden can be one feature within a complete biophilic interior.
Yes. Indoor Zen gardens can be designed for villas, offices, reception areas, atriums and hospitality spaces. Materials and plant selections are adjusted for interior light, climate control, access and maintenance.
Yes. Green Zen designs large architectural terrariums as well as open indoor gardens, olive-tree installations, bonsai displays, planted courtyards, atrium gardens and bespoke feature planters.
No. Preserved moss is real natural material that has been treated to retain its appearance and softness. It does not need soil, irrigation, fertiliser or sunlight and should remain in a climate-controlled interior away from direct water.
Yes. Green Zen designs and fabricates bespoke nature-inspired art including suspended sculptures, water features, sculptural moss art, botanical installations, feature rocks and one-off commissions such as the Boulder Chandelier.
Yes. It can be applied to receptions, meeting rooms, workspaces, breakout areas and executive offices. The design should support the brand, architecture, employee experience and practical maintenance needs.
Yes. Green Zen provides landscape concept design, planting, installation, irrigation coordination, lighting integration, hardscape coordination, mulch and maintenance for villas and commercial environments.
It depends on the system. Preserved moss and artificial planting require minimal care. Living walls, indoor gardens and landscapes require planned irrigation and maintenance. Green Zen recommends the appropriate solution during design.
It begins with a consultation covering the space, intended use, visual direction, technical constraints, programme and budget. Green Zen then develops the concept, materials, visualisation and delivery approach.
